Thermopsis villosa, Aaron's-Rod is an upright, clump-forming perennial native to the Carolinas and Georgia. Best grown in full sun/part shade, it typically grows 3-4' tall with yellow flower spikes rising up to 5' in late spring through early summer, followed by flattened, hairy seed pods on the stalk in the fall. is native to forest openings in the Appalachians, but it is adaptable to rich garden soils throughout the eastern U.S. It needs water during droughty summers. A valued pollinator plant that will be visited by bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
