Maryland Senna is a perennial flowering plant that can grow 4-6 feet tall and 3-6 feet wide. It grows best in full sun to part shade in moist sandy or rocky soils with neutral pH. It's show golden yellow flowers emerge in late summer, providing important late season pollen for pollinators. Seeds mature in the fall attracting a wide range of birds including dove and quail. It is a larval host plant of various types of Sulphur butterflies.

 

Found throughout the state, but mostly in the mountains and Piedmont. Range map
