This aquatic perennial can grow to be 4 feet tall and 2 feet wide, but will easily spread by rhizome and seed forming a sea of lizards tail. It grows best in full sun to part shade, in wet soils to standing water. Once established, it can tolerate drought but will typically go dormant in those conditions. Long white showy inflorescence emerge May through September and give off a wonderful scent. It is a pollinator magnet and a host to the Buffalo Moth, which will actually feed on the roots of the plant.
 
Native mostly to the Piedmont and Coast of NC.
