This beautiful perennial can grow to be 3 feet tall. Its purple blooms appear May through September, making it one of the longer bloomers. Growing best in part shade, it prefers sandy, well drained soils and is drought tolerant. It is a host plant to many caterpillars including the Common Buckeye, Junonia coenia. Seeds readily, however, not too aggressive to take over an area. Great to incorporate into a lawn area or mix in with a ground cover.
