Iris virginica, Southern Blue Flag Iris is a native perennial that grows  2-3' tall from rhizomes. It prefers rich soils and wet areas, but can grow in moist soils in full sun. Blooming beautifully fragrant flowers in early spring which attracts birds, it is additionally deer resistant.
