Hibiscus coccineus, Scarlet Rosemallow is a SE native to marshes and swamps so it grows best in average, medium to wet soil in full sun to light shade. It typically grows woody stalks 5-8' tall and features large, showy, 5-petaled, bright scarlet red flowers (3-5" diameter) over a long, mid-summer to early fall bloom period. These flowers are attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies and bees, including the specialized bee Ptilothrix bombiformis (hibiscus bee).
