Ficus carica, Common Fig is a deciduous tree or large shrub that grows 20–35 ft tall, with smooth white/grey bark. It is noted for its spreading habit, attractive, fragrant foliage and edible fruit. Figs are best grown in organically rich, moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade, but once established, can tolerate moderate seasonal drought. Fruits grow on new wood, and are in season from late August to early October.
