This self seeding annual grows to be about 3' tall. It requires full sun, moist to dry soils, acidic to neutral pH, and various soil compositions. A very long bloomer with its yellow flowers emerging in June and continuing to flower through September. Butterflies and bees are drawn to its nectar, while many birds, including turkey, quail, and songbirds, consume the seeds in the fall and winter. It is a host plant to many butterflies and moths, including the Sleepy Orange, Little Yellow, and Cloudless Sulphur.
