Common Milkweed is a flowering perennial the grows to 3-5' tall and about a foot wide. It will easily spread by seed and colonize. This is the milkweed that you want in your yard if your running out of milkweed during monarch caterpillar season and have room for it to spread! It requires full sun with fairly dry soils and a wide range of compositions and pH. Its pink and white blooms emerge in June and continue blooming through August, attracting butterflies, bees, and other pollinators. It is of course the host plant to everyone's favorite Monarch butterfly and the Milkweed Tussock Moth.

Found throughout NC, but mostly in the mountains and Piedmont. Range map.
