This perennial can grow to be 3 feet tall and 1 foot wide. It grows best in part shade, but will tolerate full sun if the soil stays moist. In part shade, it will tolerate drier conditions, prefering neutral pH and any soil composition. The yellow and red blooms that appear March through May attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. Song birds will feed on the seeds through the summer.
