Painted Buckeye is a small tree that grows 10-20 feet tall and 5-15 feet wide. It grows best in dappled light to part shade but can tolerate full sun of it stays moist. Protection from the hot afternoon sun is ideal. i prefers moist soils with high organic matter. It's cream colored blooms emerge in March through April, becoming one of the early favorites for hummingbirds. Butterflies, bees, and other pollinators will also appreciate the early blooms. 

 

Found mostly in the Piedmont, but less common in the mountains and coastal NC. Range Map
